Gwangju International Center will run a tour to Gokseong, South Jeolla Province, which recently rose to prominence as the location of the horror film, “The Wailing.”

The area is home to temples, shrines and monuments, with the first destination on the stop being Dorisma Temple, which was established by a famous Buddhist monk named Wonhyo Daesa. The name Dorimsa, meaning “Temple of the Forest of Ascetics,” was chosen because the temple was crowded with spiritual people, including Doseongguksa, Samyeongdaesa and Seosandaesa .

The second destination is Dangunjeon Shrine, which was created by the founder of Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom in history.

For lunch, visitors will eat fresh local seafood at a restaurant near the Seomjin River, which flows through the county.

The final destination is a train village in Gokseong, a tourist attraction that is slowly attracting more visitors. In this village, the visitors will learn how to use straw rope for crafts.

After this cultural lesson, visitors will have a chance to go rafting in the Seomjin River before leaving Gokseong.

GIC Gokseong Tour will run on July 23 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. To sign up, visit the Gwangju International Center Office or go online (www.gic.or.kr).
